Saying Goodbye (A 100 Word Challenge)

I watched his birthday celebration from the sidewalk outside the restaurant, my heart as fragile as the glass that separated us. We had our own lives but our souls were entwined in a way that cause me physical pain when we were apart. It wouldn’t be right were I to go to him, even though I needed to hold him more than I needed my next breath. It wasn’t fair, but it was our truth and I did the only thing I could –I turned and walked back the way I’d come, leaving us behind in the fog forever.  (99 words)
