This butterfly is amazing to see in person. Its colors really make it stand out and it is pretty big too, probably one of the bigger ones in the conservatory.

I couldn’t believe how much detail I got out of this picture. One of these lazybones hitchhikers attached itself to my back jeans pocket for about 45 minutes before a “flight attendant” (conservatory employee) removed it for me.

I’m not quite sure if this was a moth or a butterfly, though I would guess moth by the shape of its wings. Kind of creeped me out, even though I wasn’t as close to it as the photograph looks. I thought it was a male Common Mormon but it has too much color on it for that species.

This reminds me of a cross between a butterfly and a dragonfly, but they’re not. It’s just their thorax is shapped a bit differently than most butterflies.

I’m not sure what kind this one is, but it was so delicate, and then with the help of an excellent camera and a high shutter speed I got this photo:

Yes, a butterfly’s favorite meal apparently is the sugar from a rotten banana.
