What is something you’ve learned lately?
Lately I’ve learned that I don’t care as much about what other people think of me as I used to. When I was in my teens and twenties, it seemed that popularity and measuring up was all I thought about, but now that I’m 40, I realize that my friends will be my friends regardless. I don’t need to put on airs – with me what you see is what you get. I don’t play games and won’t compromise my integrity to be popular. If you expect that from me, keep moving, because I’m not into that. I wasn’t into it when I was at an age where it would have made sense to behave that way and I’m certainly not now. I’m comfortable enough with myself and my life to not worry about what others think.
Not caring so much about what others think is one real benefit of age!
Very true! I think it’s the one thing that I embrace about being 40. I don’t give a flippin’ fig what anyone thinks. Just wish I could jump in the way back machine and tell my younger self that.
There’s a freedom with not caring what people think about you. As one pastor said, “I’d like you to think well of me but I won’t lose any sleep over it if you don’t.”
