Q is For Quarterback

There isn’t much to say about quarterbacks that you don’t already know so I thought I’d write about the attributes that separate an outstanding quarterback from a mediocre one.  First a quarterback has to know the playbook inside and out.  They should also know the defense like the back of their hand and possess the ability to think on the fly. I don’t know if these qualities can totally be taught or if it takes a certain personality to be a successful quarterback, but the best ones I’ve seen play meld physical talent with self-confidence and levelheadedness in their role as the team’s field general.  I think the most important attribute a quarterback can possess is the ability to rally the team when things go south. Granted, some quarterbacks try to take on too much and try to carry the entire game’s outcome on their backs, but it’s a balancing act that comes with film study and practice.
