Author’s Note: So, uh, yeah. It was June when I last posted. Between the distractions of football season, photo editing binges, preoccupation with Christmas cross stitching and thumb tendonitis, catching up hasn’t been in my wheelhouse. That has changed and I’m back, hopefully through the end of the year. 

The umpire’s primary responsibility is monitoring the legality of the players’ equipment but their other duties during a game are as follows:

monitoring the line of scrimmage and monitoring holding penalties;

recording the coin toss results, timeouts and scores;

monitoring the offensive line to make sure they don’t illegally move downfield;

drying off the balls in bad weather
