S Is For Single Lens Relay

Cause For Alarm, March 2016

A single lens relay camera has one lens, meaning that what you see through the viewfinder is exactly what the sensor will record when you take a photograph. The image is reflected onto a screen by a mirror,  which flips out of the way when the shutter opens–  this is why SLR cameras are so much heavier than point and shoot or 4/3 cameras. I have to be careful when carrying my camera around – the thing has been known to flare up my tendonitis in my thumb with its weight but I wouldn’t trade the quality of my Canon DSLR for anything – it makes the magic, I just push the button.
