I found this list of questions on another blog and thought it might give you some insight into the way my mind works; then again that could be frightening.

What was the last thing you wrote?

I tried to write a poem the other night.

Was it any good?

Nope. It sucked eggs.  Went into the recycling bin.

What’s the first thing that you wrote that you still have?

I think my mother still has it – a poem I wrote in elementary school called The First Outer Space Ballad, about the first family to live in space. My rhyme and meter was pretty good considering how young I was.

Write poetry?

Yep.

Well, life inspires me, so … yeah!

Most fun character you’ve ever created?

At the moment, a fairy named Melatya

Most annoying character you’ve ever created?

I can’t honestly thing of one. I’ve written some jerks, but nobody too annoying. I am amazed, though, by the number of creative people who end up hating their creations. Agatha Christie ended up hating Poirot because he was a toady eogtist, but she wrote twice as manyPoirot novels than Miss Marple ones (and Miss Marple was her favorite character). Mozart hated the flute but wrote three lovely concertos for it, and Maurice Ravel went so far as to criticize his own work when a piece he didn’t like became popular. How can you hate something that’s such a unique part of yourself?

Best plot created?

Probably the one for my yet-to-be titled fantasy story about fairies, inspired by NASCAR of all things and the song “Catch A Falling Star” by Perry Como.

Coolest plot twist?

Maybe the snippet of a story I wrote a while back, more of a character sketch really, but I have a plot in mind about a leafy sea dragon who becomes human and travels to a remote kingdom to warn the ruler of the hazards of hording water. You don’t really find out until the end what she really is; well, at least that’s how my outline goes if I ever have the time to write it.

How often do you get writer’s block?

Only every other hour. Seriously though, my writing seems to come in fits and starts. I can’t write when I’m overly tired or stressed. When I get blocked I just have to put the writing away.

Write fan fiction?

I used to but then I grew up and outgrew the petty possessiveness that certain fandoms seem to carry with them.

Do you type or write by hand?

Write by hand. It keeps me more attached to the words, I think, because of the physical act of holding the pen and feeling my hand moving across the paper. Plus I have an unhealthy obsession with pens and paper.

Do you save everything you write?

I have for a while now on cd roms, since I put all my written drafts on the computer.

Do you ever go back to an idea after you’ve abandoned it?

Yes, sometimes distance between the idea and the act of writing makes it easier to write.

What’s your favorite thing you’ve ever written?

Recently, I’d say my novella, Fields of Honor, and A Queen’s Revenge

Do you ever show people your work?

Well yeah, I have a blog! Seriously though I never used to when I was a teenager because of the fear of being judged. I didn’ t think writing poetry was cool and I was enough of a dork without having that out there. I also didn’t think people would understand it. But when I started writing again in college, it dawned on me that there isn’t much point to writing if you don’t share it.

Did you ever write a novel?

A novella called Fields of Honor based on a screenplay my husband wrote about a Civil War re-enactment that becomes an actual battle.

What’s everyone else’s favorite story that you’ve written?

I honestly don’t know.

Ever written any romance or angsty teen drama?

I’ve written romantic scenes, but never a flat out romance story. The only teen angst drama I ever wrote was in 6th grade for a Young Author’s contest. I was about a boy whose father abandoned his family and then suddenly returns one Christmas. I don’t even remember what I called it.

What’s your favorite setting for your characters?

I love writing descriptions of nature, so some place very rural and quiet, similar to where I live.
