Lake Wyola, Summer 2015
Bokeh refers to the artistic quality of the blur in the out of focus parts of a photograph. In this photograph, I didn’t realize how I framed the shoreline until after I edited it, but I think the blur in the foreground softens the picture. The summer glare could have made the picture a bit harsh, especially reflecting off the water, but I think the bokeh helped to counter that.
So, there are words to use for almost everything! Thanks, Jen. Now, if I can only remember this “bokeh.”
Yeah I never even thought of it as an artistic quality. Usually I think it’s just a depth of field related thing, but there’s a term for everything. It comes from Japanese, which explains it…the Japanese have such amazing ways of explaining and describing things, I think.
