Author’s Note: I found the Stream of Consciousness Saturday website when I searched for writing prompts on WordPress. If you’d like to play along, you can get the 411 here. The noun I chose is “notebook.”
I was only half joking recently when I was organizing my (rather prodigious) notebook collection and told my husband “we’ll be kingpins during the internet apocalypse.” I can just imagine an EMP or some other heretofore undiscovered but equally potent terror attack crippling our tech infrastructure. If someone can steal $250 from my bank account to pay a phone bill in Trinidad, it’s only a matter of time before someone figures out how to destroy the Internet, or at least a big chunk of it. What then? A large part of society would be crippled – e-commerce, e-banking, communications, etc. I couldn’t do anything about the first two, but I can just picture myself selling notebooks, paper and pens out the back of my car. I suppose to some communication starved people, notebooks and pens would be like crack and I could probably sell my stash for copious amounts of money, but to be honest, I’d hoard the best ones for myself. I know kingpins don’t generally use their own product, but I’d be the exception to the rule. I wouldn’t let anyone use my best pens either, but that’s a story for another writing prompt.
I use notebooks (the paper kind) quite often, there’s a big difference between hand writing and typing.
