52 Weeks of Gratitude — Health

This summer my hair stylist’s daughter passed away at the age of 32 after her body rejected the bone marrow transplant that saved her life when she was 11. Graft versus host disease causes a terrible variety of complications and Chantal’s body couldn’t take any more after suffering so many gruesome side effects for four years. Having lost a good friend earlier this summer and learning of Chantal’s passing make me realize how lucky I am to have good health. Other than “misaligned vertebrae” in my neck and chronic sinus problems, I have no serious complaints. As I quickly approach my 44th birthday, I refuse to think of getting older as a negative. Some people aren’t afforded that luxury and I intend to honor Paul and Chantal by aging gracefully, without complaint and by taking as good a care of myself as I can.
